It was a musical Easter with my band in a youth pr It was a musical Easter with my band in a youth prison on Easter Sunday. We were allowed to support my colleague pastor Jan Jaap during the special Easter service in which a word was shared about the true meaning of Easter and how liberation came for people through the resurrection of Jesus on the third day after his death. I saw many familiar faces that I know from the workshops and modules that I am allowed to give there with Criminal Minded in which we work on giving meaning through creativity. There was also a beautiful play by a young man from the local community who portrayed the life of a boy who was challenged to think about his choices and how he was still worthy of being someone in life. What was cool is that I met a boy whose name means HOPE in Amharic (Ethiopian) and he himself got a lot of hope from this meeting. I thought it was a beautiful wink from God because I have been singing a song with Ethiopian influences for years called “Hope”. In between songs I was given the opportunity to share something from my own journey — about how I found liberation in God’s love, made so tangible by Jesus’ resurrection on the third day. It was no ordinary show. We brought music, but also hope. And everyone enthusiastically sang along to the songs that were a mix of our own songs and real gospel songs that help to sing joy. The reactions of the young people? Grateful but real and touched. They thought the performance was “really cool,” but the best part was that hearts were opened. After the performance there was room for some drinks and a slice of cake and some conversations about how things are going. Grateful that I could do something passionately for these young people from my past and my present. Easter is alive — even behind walls. This so we can use them again to inspire young people who are slipping into crime to make good choices. Fine collaboration and Rivelino and Deams know how to reach and inspire young people!” It was a journey full of deepening, growth and recovery. Together we worked on personal development, mutual connection and rediscovering everyone's place in society. The result? Did you already know this...? 🎤🔥 Before goi Did you already know this...? 🎤🔥 Before going solo, I had the opportunity to tour for many years under the wings of inspiring groups like Gospel Boulevard and the Outright Praise Band. A time filled with growth, travel and music. In 2002, I felt it was time to follow my own path. That year I released my very first single: “Pull Yourself 2gether,” produced by none other than Evert Nieuwstede, who previously worked with icons such as Billy Preston and Herman Brood. A few years later followed my first EP: “Takin' up my chances”. This was enthusiastically received on the CCM circuit and was created in collaboration with JayP Beijersbergen. In 2006, my desire to reach even more young people arose. I founded the LOUD Foundation, through which I help young people discover their talents and strengthen their self-confidence through workshops and talent development. That same year, I received a special invitation from World Vision to travel to Uganda as a music ambassador. There I gave performances and music workshops to former child soldiers and HIV orphans. Through music, they found a way to express their feelings and find new hope. That journey changed me profoundly-as a person, as an artist, as an entrepreneur.
