It was a good day as we explored the meaning of potential and what is means to the youths. They came up with some inspiring songs with sometimes a raw edge but still authentic and real. I’m happy to look back at a full first half of the year with assignments for @younginprison @futuremenl @tbwaneboko @artezpopacademie @adamas_amsterdam and more. Am I happy with this? Yes I am! Have me and my parents and ancestors waited to continue with our lives to be repaired? No we didn’t! Do I think that it’s necessary for reparations to be issued ? Yes I do! I’m still waiting for official apologies from the Dutch government tho?! Not to establish my self worth because I know who I am, a King with royal roots from the worlds oldest continent! but to acknowledge the fact that my people have been robbed for more than 300 years of free labor without payment, destroying family bonds, stacking them up like cattle on a ship basement at wild seas. That VOC mentality of white supremacy is still alive and kicking as we speak. Just turn on the news to bare witness of how inequality still rules in society and you’ll know what I’m talking about. We know him from his previous debut Rawtentik (2009) under the name of RIVE and several EP’s that followed after. This latest album is the musical translation of his third book //BLOEDBAND//, which shares the often raw but real stories of relationships of people in- and after detention. Rigters is involved in this matter, also from his own youth experience, as a coach and has been praised for his work. This translates to the musical collaborations of amongst others, Candy Dulfer, Shirma Rouse and Rocks (THC). The album is a colorful mix of urban soul, hip hop and street gospel. In the lyrics, mostly Dutch but also Sranan Tongo and some street lingo, a connection is being sought between the outsider who knows little about these topics and the directly involved people. “Above all else guard your heart for it is the w “Above all else guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life. “ Wellspring was the name me and my friends chose back in 1997 at Cornerstone church for our first band. This title is based upon a bible verse proverbs 4:23. Troughout my life I’ve seen God move and work in a big way. If you would have told me as a 17 and over young adult that in 20 years time I would be traveling the world sharing my testimony, making music on small and big stages and collecting awards I would probably have declared you crazy. But God had a plan and I had a dream and a prayer and God came trough in a major way 🙏🏿. Sometimes suddenly and sometimes trickling down like little drops of rain. That’s why I call God the Waymaker, Miracle worker, Promise keeper, Light in the darkness, just like the song says. From a young gang member with suicidal tendencies with multiple convictions to a streetprophet saving souls trough rap and testimonies. God is real! My duty is to not only guard my heart but also make sure it’s filled with God’s promises over me and my family’s life so that I can keep reaching for my divine potential on this blessed soil called earth. Today was the final and 2nd day of the first @euro Today was the final and 2nd day of the first @eurochristianmusicfestival in Torino, Italy and guess what?! I won two prizes 🥇🥈 One for “Best Performance” and another for “2nd overall Festival winner”. I Never expected to win and my first goal was to share Gods love trough my song and connect with fellow gospel artists in Europe and I succeeded in those goals.
