We were able to distribute hundreds of copies of the Spanish translation of my book, hundreds of Spanish-language Bibles, packed lunches, and hundreds of prayers and personal conversations! 🔥Prison Tour Mexico - Day 4 🇲🇽 This day 🔥Prison Tour Mexico - Day 4 🇲🇽 This day was one we’d literally been preparing for for a year. Last year, we experienced a fruitful day in collaboration with the internal organization and church. Sometimes God closes doors and paves new paths because He truly wants us to bear fruit, but God’s logic sometimes works differently than ours, which we would soon find out. What had been planned was canceled at the last minute, but an agreement had been made that we could come and speak and perform anyway. Mirjam van der Vliet of the Agape Foundation, worked incredibly hard to make this possible! Where we were initially thanked kindly, we now had the same stage and stood in exactly the same spot with a wonderful team of passionate and committed women and men who are filled with love for these inmates. Upon arrival, salsa music played loudly over towering speakers, and men walked around with snacks. Men were walking around the entire square with their partners and children because it was family day. The DJ plugged my guitar into the sound system, and I tested the microphone. Then a staff member introduced me and I was allowed to start with Spanish gospel songs, “Santo por Siempre” and “La Bondad de Dios.” And I must say, these songs resonate even more in Spanish. Perhaps the performances by the Mexican groups are more soulful? I don’t know, but with that same passion, I started, and the field slowly but surely filled up. The entire team sang along passionately, and by the third song, everyone joined in. After the music, I was allowed to begin my story, which Tania beautifully translated. With a great sense of drama and imagination, I shared my stumbling blocks, challenges, and how I overcame trauma by receiving Jesus in my heart. I saw many men listening with emotion in their eyes, and when it resonated , there was cheering or clapping. You could sense in the atmosphere that something was happening within the men. I extended an invitation to make a choice to leave their old lives behind and take a step forward with their hearts focused on God. A few hundred people had in front of the stage, 30 of them stepped forward to dedicate their lives to Christ! 🙌🏿🤎🔥

On days 2 and 3, we first visited an inmate in the On days 2 and 3, we first visited an inmate in the men’s prison for a personal talk, and then went to another juvenile detention center. The conversation with the inmate was special, learning about his personal situation. We spoke to encourage him, but more importantly, to offer a listening ear, and we concluded the conversation with a heartfelt prayer. The next day, we left early again to go to the juvenile detention center. Once there, we were allowed to drop off our belongings and had to wash our hands before we could proceed. Not that our hands were particularly dirty, but still. After being frisked, we were led into a sort of room where a large group of women who were prison staff members were sitting. On the other side of the room sat a group of boys. We introduced ourselves, and I started with the two Spanish songs I’ve rehearsed. The songs went down well, and I’ll definitely be doing more of them! I then closed with my song “Hope,” and then I continued. After the music came the story, the story I’d had the privilege of sharing many times before, but this time it brought recognition again, sometimes even watery eyes. I saw people nodding in recognition or understanding. I sensed that some were on the verge of breaking down, and then I also extended an invitation to those who wanted to make a choice to follow God and leave their old lives behind, both spiritually and physically. I saw nodding heads saying yes, eyes full of anticipation. After I concluded, we were able to talk and pray with many young men. Many indicated they didn’t know how to put this into practice, but as a team, we were able to give them tips and connect them with Agape Effect, the foundation founded by my sister and good friend Mirjam van der Vliet. This way, when they leave, there’s a place they can go for advice and counseling. The team members are all affiliated with various churches that can also offer practical help with employment, income, and other issues. After the conversations, we handed out my booklets translated into Spanish, Bibles, and a packed lunch. Towards the end we had the opportunity to pray for the director #prisonministry #mexico #youths
